These are particularly useful for getting into tight corners to inspect pipes hidden behind pipe boxes, under floors, under shower trays and baths etc. They require a small hole to gain access.
Infrared thermography is the science used to detect changes in surface temperatures. They make the invisible visible and are particularly good at locating leaks on underfloor heating systems and hot pipes buried with concrete slabs.
This is used to introduce an inert gas to the water pipe system, having drained down the system first. The molecular size of the Hydrogen and Nitrogen mix is far smaller than water, this means if water can escape then the gas can also escape.
Using incredibly sensitive microphones it’s possible to listen to pipes which ‘carry’ the noise of escaping water. By filtering out background noises it is possible to localise the noisiest part of a pipe system indicating the location of the leak.
This is an extension of the acoustic listening equipment. By attaching two microphones to a pipe run and processing the sound data, this is transmitted to a base station where the software is able to analyse and calculate the distance of a water leak in relative terms from the two base stations.
By the use of simple pressure gauges, we often employ this useful technique to isolate sections of pipes in order to rule in or out certain sections of a property. This is very helpful on larger properties or where expensive floor coverings are potentially risk.
FERRET LEAK LOCATOR
An ingeniously engineered device using simple hydraulic principles. This system introduces a balloon equipped device head into the pipe. Using water pipe pressure the device is driven along the inside of the pipe until it passes the location of the leak.
TRACER REELS & UTILITY TRACKERS
We have purchased one of the very best tracer reels and pipe locators in the market, made by Sewerin the Utilitrack can operate at numerous frequencies, using the filter technology we can accurately track a pipe and be confident we aren’t tracking other utilities such as cables and drains.
DID YOU KNOW?
Our equipment allows us to track the source of leaks either visually with thermal imaging cameras systems or we can also perform leak detection using acoustic leak detectors. We have invested heavily to make sure we have top end and up to date leak detection equipment.
